Yoko Ono

In the second video (The case for Yoko Ono) we explored Ono's artwork a little bit further.

Please research online and choose one artwork to analyze by Yoko Ono. It can be a word art piece, a sculpture, or even her music. Talk about the piece formally (looks like) and conceptually (what its about). Also tell me and the class what you think about the work. How does it speak to you.

10 sentence minimum and you must reply to another student.

Damien Hirst

DAMIEN HIRST

For this discussion post you must answer ONE of the four questions below:

1.) Damien Hirst often uses assistants (he tells them what to make or paint) and puts his name on the art work. Is it ever okay for others to make art work for you? Whose artwork is it? Why do you feel this way, Explain yourself, cite one article or book.

2.) As seen in Hirst's work animals can often be used in artwork, alive and dead? What is your approach to the use of animals in art? Is it ethical or non-ethical? Is there an in-between space? Does it have to do with what particular animals are being used? Why do you feel this way, Explain yourself, cite one article or book.

3.) Do scientific like displays have a place in the art world? Does something being in an art gallery/ museum make it art? What is the difference between displays at a natural history museum vs. an art museum? Why do you feel this way, Explain yourself, cite one article or book.

4.) In the article about Hirst the author goes to great lengths explaining how the "business" of art works. Artist makes work, work is sold to gallery, gallery sells work to collector or museum, collector or museums then passes the work around typically inflating the price. Damien by passed this system by selling directly to an auction house (who would typically sell to museum or gallery) What are your thoughts on the "business" of art? Who wins? Who loses? Does an artist still own rights to the work after they have sold it? Is all fair if the work has been paid for? Why do you feel this way, Explain yourself, cite one article or book.

You will be graded on a scale of 5. Please complete all the requirements below.

1.10 sentences at least

2. Written in paragraphs

3. one reply post at least 5 sentences long

4. use of a citation supporting your argument.

5. How thorough did you answer the questions?
