Learning about the Candidates

There are many sources you can consult to find information about candidates running for office. You can use the resources below to begin your research process.

  • Offices Up for Election in 2022: A list of offices up for election and their terms produced by the Texas Secretary of State for the 2022 General Election.
  • Visit the candidates' campaign websites, which will include official language approved by the campaign and the candidate.
  • Attend campaign events, where you can hear directly from the candidates. At some events, you may be able to ask the candidate questions.
  • Vote411.org: Allows you to enter your address to see what issues are on your ballot, who is running, compare candidates side-by-side, and see when upcoming elections and registration dates are.
  • Texas Tribune, Texas 2022 Elections: A list of stories published by The Texas Tribune related to the 2022 General Election in Texas.
  • 2022 Elections--How to Research Candidates and Issues: This resource created by the Legal Defense Fund provides tips and resources on researching candidates and issues.

Where You Stand & Where They Stand

When researching candidates, it is important to learn about their positions on issues that are important to you. The following resources can help you discover where you stand in relation to the platforms of candidates running for office.

  • ISideWith: iSideWith.com is an independent, self-funded, non-partisan voter education website. Take the quiz to find out which candidates most closely align with your views on key issues.
  • Political Typology Quiz: This quiz developed by the Pew Research Center--a nonpartisan fact tank that informs the public about the issues, attitudes, and trends shaping the world--will help you understand where you fit within one of their nine political typology groups.
