Brazosport College Library will continue to explore evolving methods ensuring the representation of traditionally underrepresented populations are sought for inclusion into our collection. As an academic library, we recognize the primary responsibility of supporting the students and faculty in their curricular goals.
Following is a list of consideration criteria we will incorporate into decisions involving the strategic development of our library collection:
Collect content about inequity; anti-racist concepts; and inclusive practices.
Enhance discovery of diverse content.
Marginalized Identities
In all subjects and genres, prioritize collection of titles created by authors whose identities are non-dominant majority. Authors of marginalized identities may include Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), people who identify as LGBTQIA+; people with a disability; people whose first language is not English; or people of intersectional identities. Collecting items authored by people of marginalized identities requires that an author has chosen to disclose their identity. The criteria for this list are anticipated to evolve with updated terminology and definitions.
